Just received a bill covering 11 July 2013 to 29 November 2013

They appear to have cancelled a previously issued bill covering up to 3 December 2013. I think that's to cover a change of tariff that the previous bill didn't pick up before it was produced?

Anyway, it looks strange because they are counting three payments by DD received in Jan Feb and Mar 2014 (after the period covered in other words) This is 'double counting' in my favour because the 'credit balance' going into the subsequent period beginning 30 November 2013 is overstated by those three months taken after in 2014.

If those three months were taken out of the following nine (because they have been wrongly put into an earlier period so there are actually only six months further receipts in the 'next' nine months anyway my new payment should be fifty percent greater than they are saying (the same amount divided by six rather than nine)

Any comments?

They'll get you in the end, might as well sort it now - death, taxes, and energy companies.

It's not ever so difficult to work out your own bill - you take the earlier reading from the later reading and it gives you the number of kwh you've used. You multiply this by the tariff, add the standing charge and it should give you a pretty good idea of what you've spent. You take off what you've already paid and you get what either you or they owe.
It's not rocket science. However it is made a lot more difficult if you don't bother to read your meters, check your bills and ensure that payments have been made and bills corrected if they are wrong.
It also helps if you make sure that the tariff you are on is the one you signed up for. Regular meter reading makes sure that you are paying for what you use, rather than letting them guess what you are using. This becomes even more important when there are tariff price changes and they start guesstimating how much you've used on the old one compared with the new one.
