Car Insurance incorrect data

Hi -Anyone help?. On my car insurance renewal (November) I compared deals and decided to leave the company I was with for another Insurer. When I called to buy =I was told I had an unresolved claim showing. This was a not at fault incident which had been fully paid and finished months ago. I called my existing insurer and they confirmed it had been settled and this information was incorrect. A whole day of calls went on and I was promised twice that they would email proof of this to the new insurer. When it eventually got to the end of the day, I was given the choice of either re insuring with them or face not having any cover at all. I asked if there was anything else I could do -but was told no. I later found out that they didn't send any emails even though they admitted to it being an IT error on their part. As I couldn't get insurance with anyone else, I had to take up their quote (which was around £80 more with a higher excess). They promised to rectify the error. A month ago my son was refused a policy due to me being named on it (due to the same error). I spoke with his Insurer but they would only insure him without me(extra £40). I rang my Insurer who looked into it and told me it was still listed on the main data base but not theirs -due to an IT system error. They are currently trying to remove it (now 2weeks). It seems really unfair that their mistake keeps costing me money and the embarrassment of being refused insurance -plus i'm not even sure if it will be cleared properly as they have given me these assurances before. It is a bit of a worry, what should I do?,

Any advice please?

WRITE (you know, old fashioned paper and stamp) a letter headed COMPLAINT, stating what you want them to do and state any financial losses you have incurred due to their error that you want reimbursing. They have 8 weeks to sort it or you take the complaint to the ombudsman.

A claim will remain open until your insurer receives 100% of any expenses paid out are recovered by your insurer from a third parties. Even though you say it was paid do you mean in your eyes or an insurers?
Some insurers accept liability and take forever to actually pay costs. Quite often it takes a court summons and magically it will appear.

The issue you have appears to be with CUE the claims under writing exchange. If your insurer has updated the data base with the fact your claim is now non fault it can take up to 28 days to be updated and appear so on insurance systems. If you use a broker and it is a claim coming down from the underwriter then it could be quicker.
