Economy 7 readings switched

Hi, I hope someone can help..
I have had my latest bill from BG stating I owe £550 for 3 months usage (12 Nov - 24 Jan) on top of the £135 per month I already pay. I provide regular readings, but once again the meter reader has been out and switched the day and night rates.

I use more leccy at night for the cheap rate but this makes it look like I use more during the day so I get charged more. I know my way round is right as i have checked 3 times a day to find out which figure changes and which stays the same. This has been happening for almost 8 years and I'm getting annoyed!

It has been escalated twice and they know the problem and have supposedly contacted the meter reading company at least 4 times over the years to sort it. I have to ring and spend weeks arguing with customer services before it gets escalated and put back round the right way again.

What more can I do? I find it very stressful and of course my regular payments get set on the wrong amounts as they always read just before they are adjusted (last year they tried for £175 per month  (My actual usage is confirmed at less than £80)

Anyone had this problem and can advise?

  • Its G4S ( formerly Accuread ) reading the BG meters. so far I havent ever heard anything from our management about feedback from BG about reverse readings on eco 7 meters. If a meter shows a "1 " on the index, that will be imput into the low or night field regardless of whether its a day or night reading , and "2" will be imput into the day. Its been a bugbear for years with me about our hopeless management with eco 7 meters. Most ( but not all) of the modern digital meters (eg Ampy ) are set at 1 for day, 2 for night. I would advise you to place a sticker on or near the meter informing any meter readers whats day and night on your particular meter.
If you have an old analogue timer switch, with its 24 hour circular timer, check that its set on or near the correct time as that will skew (to your advantage) the switchover times. I often find them so far out that the cheap night rate is on in the afternoon or evening
