Broken bed 1.2 years old

bought kingsize bed for £545 from company via their website.. paid with credit card in November 2012, bed delivered February 2013 at my request. Wooden bar holding slats snapped off after sitting on it causing slats to fall through.. mattress on floor now.

Emailed company asking to return faulty bed and refund or exchange for new one.. no response after 1 week.. phoned tonight and eventually managed to speak to manager who stated that not covered by guarantee now as over 1 year old! Said he would forward my email with pictures of broken bed to manufacturer.

Please can anyone advise for my next step in procedure?

have you had a report to state the nature of the fault is inherent?
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

. . what about repair? they have the option to do that as well.

Or just get another wooden bar, that'd fix it.

thanks for your responses.. bed company telling me nothing to do with them any more as only guaranteed for 1 year which is not the case.. he has forwarded my email to manufacturer as a gesture of goodwill! I have informed him that my contract was with him.. not the manufacturer.

Company has not offered a repair.. where would you go to get a bed report?

At the moment they do not need to do anything until you can prove it is an inherent fault. This would require a report as suggested by unholyangel.

Check to see if the retailer is registered with the Furniture Ombudsman - I believe they can also provide a report. Alternatively, contact a local carpenter who may be able to repair it fairly cheaply.
