Mortgage and New Job

Options
Hi, I'm looking for some help. My partner and myself are looking at buying a house. We have a 10% deposit and are looking at houses around £125000. We both earn £22000 each, no existing credit or credit issues, however we both started new jobs about 2 months ago, on permanent contracts. We had both been employed in similar roles immediately before, no periods of unemployment.

I have spoken to a Which mortgage broker who said that although it would limit our options it would be possible to find a lender, and she was quite positive about it. I then spoke to L&C who said don't bother, call us in 4 months and cut the conversation off there and then, so now I'm a bit confused! Can anyone help with who I should be listening to?

I would agree with the which advisor.
It will reduce your options but there will be options.

My partner had just started a new job (he'd been there 3 weeks) and an ifa found us a mortgage. He was advised that we would need reference from employer stating salary & it was a permanent position which was fine (employer agreed no problem). As it happened though due to us having a sizeable deposit all they required was last wage slip each to meet their criteria. So don't give up hope! Good luck

Woolwich don't mind a probation period as long as you're in the same field and have no gaps.

We've just completed and I was two weeks into my new role

    ACG is correct.

If you are in a probationary period this can be a problem with some lenders, others are OK with it.

The adviser from Which is on the right track, the other one from L&C appears to have had a brainstorm.

Thank you, that's what I had thought, I was quite taken aback by how abrupt the man from L&C was in ending the call!

Similar position here. Although we had less choice of lender we found Santander was fine with it.
