Whats a non-impediment?

Hi
Wedding abroad, I have received a letter from the company saying that non impediments are required.
I phoned the local registry office and the girl that answered the phone has never heard of a non impediment. She kept mentioning a "notice of marriage".
Does anybody know if this is the same thing?
Thanks

I think this is likely to be a Certificate of No Impediment which is explained here http://www.weddings-abroad-guide.com/wedding-abroad-documentation.html#certificate-of-NI0

"If either party to the marriage is a UK citizen resident in the UK they will need a Certificate of No Impediment issued by their district registrar.
If you are living overseas a certificate can be issued by the Embassy or Consulate in the country in which you live.
Once issued, it needs to be sent the Legalisation Office of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to be legalised. This can take 2-3 weeks.

Hi
If you put non impediment in your search engine it will give you all the info you need. As far as I read it they are supplied either by a registry office or you can get a solicitor to issue them {both will charge}. All it is is a legal document stating that you are free to marry :0)
