Faulty brand new washing machine

On Tuesday I purchased a washing machine online from a well known Catalogue site. This was delivered this morning. However, on its first use after the wash programme had ended the door has failed to open at all! I have been running round in circles ever since trying to get the catalogue company to take this back and send a replacement. I keep getting told to ring and book an engineer to come out! I mean it's not even a day old and it's faulty! How can I get this returned to the company without having to get an engineer out......apparently they not able to come out anyway until this time next week! What good is that??!! When I spoke to the Returns Department at the Catalogue company I was told that they would need a reference code from the engineers!! How can I exercise my consumer rights when I cannot get to speak to someone who actually agrees that this washing machine SHOULD be returned and a replacement provided!!?

Was it a samsung ecobubble by any chance?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

they do have the right to check it first, the engineer could probably fix it on his visit

Yeah . . I wanna new one 'cos the door lock release is faulty:rotfl: (5 minute job)
    . . . or the cycle hasn't finished because I didn't set it properly.

Have you checked the filter is not blocked, that can cause the door to stay locked as it fools the system into thinking it is still full of water.

If it is inherently faulty then you are entitled to reject it for a full refund since acceptance has (probably) not occurred yet.

If you simply haven't used it properly or set it up properly then you aren't entitled to that.
  • everything that SHOULD have been done (e.g. removal of transit bolts, etc as above) WAS done. Not only does the door not open, NONE of the programmes will work! Have checked the water is drained out and that there are no kinks in the hose. Cannot get an engineer out for another week! I asked Zanussi about paying for a Zanussi trained engineer myself to come and check out the machine.........but NO it HAS to be their own authorised engineers. I am going to contact the catalogue company direct now and refuse this machine.

It might be worth you having a clue about the Sale of Goods Act before you post on a Consumer Rights board.

I know about SOGA ta. The op may have rights to reject the machine and if that's what they want, then that's up to them. Possibly not the quickest way to resolve the problem of not having a working washer though.

And whilst the OP has a right to reject the machine the seller also has the right to have the machine inspected to ensure that the fault is inherent.
