Car Scrapping

Im currently looking to scrap my car, the best price ive been given so far is by motorwise.com, has anyone used these?

I spoke to a representative on their website, it sounds like they will collect the car but they dont pay cash on collection which sounds a bit strange i thought?

Has anyone had any dealings with the above company?

Also, what is the process when i scrap the car (so i know what im doing), do i need to sign the log book over etc? New to this. Ive heard i need a destruction certificate?

Many thanks.

Why not sell on eBay instead?

With the amount of things thats wrong with the car, i wasnt really sure anyone would buy. Clutch has gone so it would have to be collected, power steering is failing, airbag warning light on, exhaust blowing and has a small oil leak.

Would someone actually pay more than a scrap yard?

Also i wanted to get rid by the end of the month in order to claim 6 months car tax back.

    Thanks

For scrap metals, it's actually illegal to pay cash.

I don't _believe_ that applies to car dismantlers, not least since they must be proving your identity against the V5C, getting you to sign that over to them, then issuing the certificate of destruction - although they may dbut I'd take it as a sign that you're dealing with a reputable business, not one that'll have no qualms about nicked cars.

They don't have to give you the certificate straight away - they might decide to take the time to see if it's worth repairing the car first, then post it you on.

  • I gave used cartakeback in the past who offered a good rate. Booked collection online and they collected the next day.

Depending on the car it may be worth selling on ebay, spares or repairs though probably less hassle just scrapping.
