Tesco Broadband - wifi drop outs

Number two son signed up to Tesco bb and from day one has had issues relating to wifi stability (he is using the kit shipped by Tesco which keeps dropping connection). Wired connections to the modem router appear fine and in many cases he is using wifi enabled devices in the same room as the router. The tech support from Tesco has brought nothing but wasted hours on the phone. Would a replacement modem router be worth a go (he has a Sky router he could try)? If yes, how do you set it up?

many thanks in anticipation,

Chunks.

If the Tesco router allows users to change settings try and change the Wifi channel, or manually set it if it is on Auto.

Wi-fi dropouts could be down to the channel used or interference with a neighbour. Try changing the channel in the first instance.

A different router is fairly easy to set up. You will need to know the user name, password, VPI, VCI, Line Mode, Encapsulation, Protocol, and MTU and ensure they are, or change to, the same as on the Tesco router. The majority of these will be the same across all UK ISPs.

Thanks guys, assuming he can get in to his Tesco router settings, he should note these down and replicate these in the replacement. Changing channel - noted - did the same with a router I had. I downloaded an app which showed what channel my neighbours were using and I picked one that was 'spare'. Cannot remember the name of the utility. Do you guys know which one I mean by chance?
