Missed POPLA Appeal Deadline...

Guys, I received a ticket back in December from UKPC, which I appealed with them.

They rejected my appeal (surprise, surprise) and sent me a letter dated Jan 24th saying I could appeal with POPLA if I so wished to.

I have been away for a while and then totally forgot about it, until I came home to letters from Debt Recovery Plus saying I had to pay them £160 (rather than the original £60 fine).

I've missed my deadline to appeal with POPLA...does that mean I'm now screwed? or will they still hear my appeal?

Could really do without having to pay out £160 :(

you dont have to pay DR+ a penny, but as you missed the popla deadline it cannot be reset or appealed now as you only get 28 days from the date generated in the popla verification code

so its a case of ignoring it now until you get an LBC or court papers because you have missed the easy way out (popla)

read the 2 sticky threads for more info

You don't have to pay anything. Please read the NEWBIES sticky thread - this gives the lowdown on all things to do with PPCs, tickets and appeals.

Even a search of this forum for Debt Recovery Plus will tell you that they are toothless no-marks who can only send you threatograms - they can't actually DO anything to enforce the perceived debt.

Edit: Did you appeal a windscreen ticket? Or did you appeal a postal ticket?

Windscreen, then I sent them an appeal letter.

The Newbie thread doesn't say anything on what to do if you missed the POPLA deadline...

    What's an LBC mate?

I really can't afford to be going to court.

If you read the sticky threads, especially the NEWBIES one, you'll quickly find out what ALL the acronyms are that we use around here. :)

I did have a read through them and then went back to find what LBC meant, totally missed it when reading through, got it now though Letter Before Court.

As I said, I really can't be going to court. Is there any way I can still get out of it or pay a lesser fine than the £160?

at the moment its an LBCCC from PE and LBC is the correct term as mentioned by lazydaisy (was an LBA - Letter Before Action) so you have the chance to fightback and negotiate at LBC stage, so check the sticky thread by crabman and read the lazydaisy LBCCC thread (which is mainly aimed at PE not other PPC`s but applies to all) , and the parking pranksters guide

there is no magic wand to enable you to fix this, you should have appealed in the beginning to get this sorted through popla when you had the chance

so read the 2 items I posted, but dont assume its easy

And don't assume we're going to do it for you either. We'll guide, prod and assist, but you will have to do the work.

Can the OP not nominate a different driver to get the clock re-set, so to speak?

only if no windscreen ticket was issued, also the driver must be a different person than the RK too

    so 2 caveats
