Once Dro is approved..

Options
Hi folks,

2 weeks ago, I got my DRO approved.

I believe that once its approved, a creditor cannot ask/pester/etc, for money after this.

My question is, how long could/may it take for my creditor to be told of the DRO once its approved? I recieved a letter from them today telling me of payments I missed and that I need to phone them and sort it out - but it is 2 weeks since it was approved so I would have thought they would have been informed about it by now? Should I send them a letter reminding them I am under a DRO now?

I also have another question. I sorted my DRO through national debtline - (which all went well and was happy with the service),and once it went through, I got some information sheets and such about what happens next etc. One thing I was curious about, was a comment stating.. 'once the DRO is approved, I must keep hold of all financial details (bank statements etc), for 6 years afterwards'. Is there a main reason for this to be done? I could maybe understand keeping all info during the moratorium period, but upto 6 years ? (which i believe is the period your dro will stay on your credit file - but Im a bit confused as to why there's a requirement to hold onto all financial information beyond the DRO year).

Thanks for any information in advance! :)

    Hi sortingdebts, welcome :D

I had my DRO approved in January last year (so now discharged :j ) and I had letters from my creditors for approx 8 weeks after the approval. It was explained to me, and it's also laid out in the outrageous amount of wording on the DRO itself, that creditors can/will still contact you but it's nothing to worry about as they still have procedures that they follow, regardless.

If you're at all concerned then you can give yourself peace of mind by calling the OR and discussing it with them.

I did mine through the CAB but I wasn't told that I had to keep everything for 6 years, just the year that the DRO is in place.

    HTH xx
  • Hi there! Thanks for the response!

Yeah I believe you still get certain things in the post - but no creditor, as far as I was aware, is allowed to ask for money or pester you about it.

In the last 3 days I've had 2 letters from my creditor (Halifax). One stating I owe xxx amount of money and should contact them to deal with it. The second was a normal statement from them, again saying payment is due on xx date and I should contact them. To me these are letters asking for money. As you say anyhow, it could be a while before the dro gets through to them, so I'll just ignore them for now.

Yeah I think I'll ring them up tommorow just to enquire about the 6 year thing, as I'm not really sure of the reason behind that, just thought someone might know :)

Is good to know my dro went through ok though! That was nail biting for a few weeks - but no problem in the end!

I believe the delay comes in the creditors processing the communication from the Insolvency Service. You can photocopy your approval letter and send this onto them

I've had letters and phone calls still, and I'm six months into my DRO this weekend.

I quote them my DRO number and say 'I'm sorry my old creditors have sold you a debt you won't get a return on'. As that's what's happened....
Credit Card & Overdraft Debts Jan 2012: £16,000+ [STRIKE] Credit Card & Overdraft Debts Sep 2013: £13,023 [/STRIKE]
    DRO Completed: 30/09/2014 :T
30/09/19 - Details now dropped off debt register. :o

  • So far Ive not had any more calls or anything yet (apart from the couple of letters recently). Im hoping they fade out and that's the last I hear from them - but if they do call, or do continue sending mail, I will have to get in touch and remind them of the Dro. :)
