Redundancy Insurance/Income Protection

Hi all,
I'm currently paying £17.50 per month for redundancy insurance. This will pay out a fixed amount per month if I'm made redundant for a period of up to 12 months.
My question is am I paying for something which I'd be entitled to anyway if I was made redundant (in the form of Job Seekers Allowance I presume). And by paying for this insurance, and therefore having an income if I'm made redundant would I make myself not eligible for JSA? I just want to make sure I'm not wasting my money!
Thanks in advance for your insight!

JSA is not means tested, to the best of my knowledge, so it is paid in addition to your ASU policy.
You are paying to supplement the JSA with the additional money from the ASU as presumably your living expenses exceed the £71.70 per week0
