Credit refused due to address change

I just tried to get a 0% loan but been refused after speaking to an advisor due to, one; the billing/shipping address I gave was wrong (mix of my old house number with new address). Two; I'm moving, thus in-between two properties (one I'm selling and the other moving back into my parents), so my current address (moving to and contactable at) cannot be classified as my current and my previous would have to be used - I did this as the delivery date for what I was order is after I moved out, which is the same time the 0% offer runs out.

This is the first time I've been refused credit, but I've got/had a mortgage, credit card and car finance but I was wondering how this would affect me in the long run? I'm not planning on getting any other finance till about 10-12 months later when I apply for a new mortgage but the guy said he would make a note of it in my file.

Thanks!

    Hi

Are you asking how moving house will affect you in the long run?
or how being declined for credit will affect you in the long run?

When you move house it can have a short term impact on your ability to get credit (particularly before you update the electoral roll and this is reflected on your credit reports).

Being declined for credit will not show on your file. All that will show is that a credit application was made. This will have minimal short term impact, and after a few months no impact at all on your ability to get credit.

  • Sorry, I overly complicated it!

Basically: moving house, decided to use new address for finance (as well as providing old address), refused credit based on cannot prove I live at new address and that I filled it in wrong any way.

But you've answered my question any way :)

The decline for 0% finance may also be influenced by your current level of debt. As I assume that your intention is to do a balance transfer.
  • It was a product purchase; but I spoke to the finance guy on the phone and he couldn't give it to me based on the wrong address. I my debt it pretty low in respect; only a car purchase (at 0% for 3 more years) and a mortgage, credit card is paid off and only for those higher purchases that I want insurance on (such as holidays as a backup though I know IATA covers this).
  • I would have though knowingly putting incorrect information on your application, regardless of the reason, would flag on the national hunter database for innacurracy and possibly cause problems in the future. I wouldn't have thought that there would be a CIFAS fraud entry but if you have admitted to lying on the application, i.e. using an address you do not live at, then who knows what action the employee will take. Either way, I would make sure in in future when applying for credit, to check your report carefully incase either of these are an issue now.
