UK Parking Patrol ticket

Morning, received a windscreen ticket last week for what the ticket outlines as parking on private property (street), but I'm looking for a little confirmation if I may on a way forward.

I have read the sticky FAQs which have outlined a way forward (thank you). But one part I'm a little unsure about is the NTK letter I should receive.

The FAQ says consider waiting for this letter, but states I may receive it after around 15 days which is longer than the ticket I had on my windscreen outlines as a the 14 day reduced payment fee for £60.

Its been 7 working days since the ticket was put on the window. Should I therefore continue to wait, or proceed with the first stage which is to appeal to the PPC? (obviously I understand this will ultimately be declined). Should this appeal to PPC be via email or a formal letter?

In the FAQ standard letter to the PPC it states "I wish to invoke your appeals process, since all liability to your company is denied on the following basis:" will those three items be current to my specific case? I assumed so as its a generalised letter?

If my appeal was to fail, what would be the worst case scenario in terms of the invoice they can issue me, would it be the £100 it states on the ticket?

Thanks in advance

The key is that the "reduced charge" is there to make you worry about the cost going up, and tries to emulate how a real penalty charge works.

The fact is that (unless this was a council PENALTY charge notice - which I doubt) then all you have received is an invoice - a request for monies. If you follow the advice here you won't even by paying the "reduced charge" never mind the "full charge". :)

Those items (no GPEOL, bad signage, no standing) apply to pretty much ALL parking invoices. So take the advice, and unless your car is a lease/hire/company car (i.e. you or a family member is not the registered keeper) then simply wait for the NtK.

The discount is only lost by the driver - it will ( or should ) be offered to the registered keeper in the NtK. It's not recommended to pay the discount level either though so it's rather academic how long the discount period is.

They can invoice you for whatever amount they like - it's still unenforceable.

Sit tight and await the NtK and then appeal using the template.

  • Thank you for the swift responses. No its not a council or police ticket.

Understand that its an invoice and not a fine like the ones given by police or council etc, but as with most posters on this forum I guess there is a level of uncertainty when you receive one of these tickets that you dont want to end up with a huge invoice at the end - which in part kind of makes the tickets scare tactics work.

    .......
The FAQ says consider waiting for this letter, but states I may receive it after around 15 days ......

Following a windscreen ticket the NtK should arrive no earlier than 29 days after the alleged event and no later than day 56. (and is calendar days not working days)

(Just for info - if you ever get a postal PCN when no windcreen ticket was issued - the NtK must arrive within 14 days)

If your Ntk arrives before day 29 or after day 56 it wouldn't make it illegal and you would still need to appeal - but it would give you an extra appeal point - no keeper liability as Ntk arrived out of time to comply with POFA 2012 - to add to the three in the template appeal
  • My apologies I misread that sentence.

    So my situation for the next 29-56 calendar days is;

Sit tight, ignore any requests for payment until a NTK has been received, don't worry about the payment due date stated on windscreen ticket which ends before the 29-56 days and only once the NTK has arrived should I send the letter adding "no keeper liability as Ntk arrived out of time to comply with POFA 2012" - to add to the three in the template appeal should it be received late.

You got it, except that "no keeper liability as Ntk arrived out of time to comply with POFA 2012" comment only applies IF the NtK is received before 29 days or after 56 days (from the date of the parking event).

Apologies for any confusion Ricks - I've edited my post #5 above to make it clearer for the benefit of anyone else reading it.
And thanks to bod1467 for clarifying.
  • Good morning,

I have now received the NTK. Could someone please advise of the next step now? Is it to use the standard letter to the PPC which is located in the FAQ, and then wait for there response?

    Thanks in advance

Go back to the NEWBIES thread and find the link to the flowchart. That should make the process clear.
