Hey Ho - looks like I'll have to get a new SIM tomorrow

Can't say I'm really surprised ... there's a limit to how much advertising can bring in, and as this was their modus operandi (from what I can read - I have no experience with them) then it was only a matter of time.0

Is it actually bankruptcy? All major news sources are still quoting the website which just says "things beyond our control".
I never heard of them before today, slightly curious as to how they worked. I can understand how the advertisement funded ISP used to work when you had to use their bespoke browser to be able to use the service but cant see how ads funded system works on a mobile.0 -
You bought a SIM - when I got mine they were £15 but that increased to £20. IIRC all of that went into the account as call credit should you need it. There were also small credits for introductions and number porting. Each month you were awarded free call, text, and data credit at abouit thelevels you'd get from low end SIM only deals. You could also pay for extra but I doubt many did as those deals were poor value. As you browsed you'd get routed through their portal which carried advertising plus there was a daily groupon style email. The data always seemed pretty slow to me but that may just have been Vodafone. Excellent for a backup phone you bunged in the car.InsideInsurance wrote: »slightly curious as to how they worked
I was surprised it lasted as long as it did.0 -
Ok, so it was similar to the old ISP in that its just web browsing where the adverts were inserted.
Was imaging that you had to listen to an ad before being connected to each call or such

I had 'free' calls . for nearly two years , from a £5 Sim card , so it was great when it lasted.
So now its down to some research to find the best deal out there on a PAYG
won't be as good , but all good things come to the end eventually and I /we had a good run.0 -

There's now way I'd go on a contract, think the three 321 offer looks good for PAYG for light users like me. Couldn't sleep last night thinking about having to pay to text or call someone after 18 months of having it for free! :rotfl:0 -

As it happens I'd just bought another SIM which hadn't even arrived so I thought I was down an extra £20 but I just had this from TopCashBack..Important Notice Regarding Your Recent Ovivo Purchase.
We’ve heard the bad news that Ovivo has unexpectedly shut down as of last night (Wednesday 19th March 2014). Ovivo have cited it is due to reasons beyond their control and if you wish to keep your mobile number you can visit their site to request your PAC code.
We can see from your account that you recently purchased an Ovivo Sim Card through TopCashback and you have cashback tracking in your account which made it seem like an even better deal at the time.
As we understand that Ovivo customers will already be extremely frustrated with this situation, we wanted to soften the blow as much as we could for TopCashback members! Therefore, anybody who ordered a sim-card through TopCashback will see their cashback move to payable within the next 48 hours.
Please be aware that this will be paid from our own pocket as we have little idea on whether we will go on to receive payment for this cashback from Ovivo.
We hope this helps to soften the blow a little.
If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to let us know.
Kind regards
TopCashback
Now that was completely unexpected and very generous of them.
I used PayPal to buy it and have asked them about a refund - my betting is that they won't refund anything at all. If they do I'll actually be £5 up on the deal though.0 -
People on hotdeals are getting refunds fromPaypal.0

I can confirm that I have recently received a PayPal refund. Glad I used them rather than a credit or debit card,0
