Cost of removing external chimney stacks

Hi.
We've had persistent damp problems around the chimneys. The chimneys are unused so we are thinking about having the external chimney stacks removed and the holes tiled over (internal chimney breasts to remain).
It's a bungalow. The chimneys are located in central areas of the roof (not on external walls and not on the ridge) so access is quite awkward; scaffolding will be needed for both chimneys.
We've been quoted about £1600 per chimney (ex VAT). This is by a local (Devon) company who did a good job re-roofing my neighbour's house, and on a small job on mine - so I believe the quality of work will be good.
I know my description is limited, but can anyone say if this seems a sensible (ball-park) price? It's nearly £4000 for both chimneys when VAT is added and I hadn't expected it to be anywhere near that much.
Cheers

This amount sounds quite high, I had my chimney taken down all the way through the loft and bedroom at a cost of £1200 that included skip but no plastering to walls. I would look at getting other prices.0

If you like the company talk to them and get some other quotes. Remember cheap is not always best.0

There's a problem with the chimney stack in this Victorian house I recently purchased. The chimney stack is enormous with for chimneys inside the one stack. The stack will need to be re-built as the brick is porous and it's somehow twisted. The cost of a new chimney is estimated at £1800.0
