Porting mortgage and buying an additional product - help please!!

Hi!
We are moving house (hopefully!!) and in the process of applying for an additional mortgage product alongside our current fixed rate which we will be porting. My question is: our current product is fixed until July 2015 at a rate of 3.49%; do we get the additional loan amount on SVR at a rate of 6.1% until our current product finishes and we can remortgage the entire amount, or, do we fix into another product ( with an initial outlay of £995 for the product) at a rate of 3.99% but which won't finish until may 2016?!
I've seen Martin mse has mentioned about the risk of base rates soaring making SVRs astronomical but how likely does this look and how soon would it be likely to happen as we will be stuck with an "overhang" of a product either way , it's just a case of dealing with it now or later?!
Thanks in advance!
Becky

If you end up with 2 sub accounts on your mortgage. Then you could end up paying 2 sets of product fees. So proceed with caution.0

an svr of 6.1%?? who is that with? you are probably better off moving to a new lender for the full amount if that is their rate.2023 wins - zilch, nada, big fat duck. quack quack,0
