When I came to pay for an item, Paypal suddenely decided not to recognise the password I knew to be correct. I was told to go through various procedures to retrieve my password, at the end of which I would receive an email to direct me from there. I never received an email and I have tried doing this several times now.
I am reluctant to dial the 0870 number they give out because they keep you waiting for ages so I decided to try re-registering with Paypal - exactly the same name, email, address etc. and I was accepted as a newcomer.
Can anyone tell me whats going on here? I haven't gone as far as giving out my bank details yet as I can't understand why my account should suddenly have become non existant.

You can't log in and no e-mail?
Sounds like you've been hacked, and the scammer has changed the details within.
I would get onto paypal ASAP to get this sorted out before this turns into any sort of trouble. It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

It might have been hacked / phished.
You really need to ring them - for all you know someone could be running up a lot of bills with your name on.
The alternative to the 0870 no. is an Irish number - I don't know how the rates would compare on your phone bill. I tend to find they don't keep you waiting all that long, and they're pretty efficient. My TV is broken!

Ok. I've now phoned the dreaded 0870 number and all I get (enventually) is an automated message referring me back to the Paypal website! It doesn't seem as though I can speak to anything other than a machine about this. I will try and send another message by email but I know all I'll get is another automated response, probably telling me to ring that number again!
Thanks for your help though, that was much appreciated.0 -
Did you choose the option for forgotten passwords?
You need to speak to someone, don't be fobbed off with any automated options. My TV is broken!

Try paypal again. I've never ever got an automated system if I push the right options to speak to someone.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Hello Rory,
Have just looked up a number given from James@ebay some time ago - do try: 08707303191.
Along with others, I agree you MUST speak to someone.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

Rory,
Did you get this sorted out?
I tried to log into our paypal account today and it wasn't recognising our details.
After ringing paypal it turned out that some how - and I have no idea how - our login email address was changed to the one that all our payments go to.
The only thing I changed yesterday was the card that was registered with the account as we had an email saying it had expired.
Paypal had removed a card that hadn't expired and left the one that had
So I sorted that out and nothing else. I definatley didn't change the login email address as for months I've been trying to do it and never managed to find where you can change it.
So we can now login and have changed the password.0
