Some student finance is ignored for benefit purposes; but not all.

I have looked at their website but they have conveniently chosen to not mention anything about households where one person is unemployed and the other is a student. :/

When they post the entitlement letter later this week we will phone them up and get them to re-process the council tax benefit side of the claim to factor in that she has no income and that they cannot use my student (exempt) income as a factor.

Where does it say that your student income is exempt ?
Play nice  Just because I am paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get me.:j
  • How can they factor in my income though when I am a fulltime student and therefore am legally exempt from having to pay council tax?

Surely the ONLY income they are allowed to factor in is hers? (No income)

Your income is taken into account with some disregards - even your loan is taken into account. If you choose not to take all you are entitled to it is still treated as income even if you don't receive it.

If you were a student but received no student income we would still treat you as receiving the maximum you could get.
These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.

I always thought because a student is a student he doesn't have access to benefits so I'm at a loss to know how his girlfriend is entitled to HB as she appears not to be the tenant. HBO is the man for info so you should listen to his advice. :)

Well that explains a lot. I thought he was simply being a bit thick but he's obviously a full time Billy !!!!!!!!ter. Bet he has a mongrel and sits in the park muttering under his breath. :D

If you are in a loving relationship you make sacrifices, like getting a job, while your partner is in school. I would rather focus on exams and writing papers than fight with a government agency.
I know from your previous posts you will disagree but one day you will be a taxpayer like me.
