How to pay for apps with itunes card

Well, I have now got my iPad and so far am very happy with it - BUT....
I bought myself an itunes gift card and registered it with my itunes account. I want to use it to purchase an app from the apps store but it won't let me - it takes me to the itunes log on and then keeps on asking for credit card details.
How can I get it to use the gift card account?
Hurrah - have managed to solve problem by deleting card details and after much logging in to iTunes, it used the gift card.
