I need a personal DAB radio i can use at work, i can only get a selection of fm stations through my phone, but i cant listen to any sports or half the fm stations i would prefer to tune in to. I have looked on Amazon but there dosent seem to a be a large choice and i have never used a DAB so im not too sure what im looking for.
Has anyone got any advice on this? one thing, it needs to be pocket size - the smaller the better.
cheers

To be honest, I wouldnt bother none of the personal DAB radios have good reception unless your sitting right on top of a transmitter, I've tried around 5 different ones and the reception is about the same on all of them........terrible0 -
Really? to be honest ive never seen one used but i was of the impression you got crystal clear sound from every station!? thats what the stations tell us anyway.
So how can i listen to horse racing, five live, talkSPORT, etc from my desk without streaming off the internet? are there any good regular radio's on the market?0 -
better off using your internet connection - should you be listening to the radio at work anyway????0

Tend to agree with the last post, however Pure Digital make an excellent range of DAB radios if you want to buy one.
Be aware DAB is not available in all areas.
Reception can be compromised inside large buildings.
They eat batteries as thy consume more power than analog radios.
The quality of the audio tends to be less good than a decent fm radio due to digital compression.
Having said all that the Pure One is a very good set that has fm as well and sells for around £50.That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

christ, i need something to help pass the time of day! through earphone's of course, just one usually, at a lowish volume, so others can still communicate with you. we are not aloud to stream off the internet though. i do listen to radio 1 and 2 through my phone easily enough, it just bugs me when i cant listen to the test match when its on, or wimbledon this week, or the GG's when ive a bet on etc.
And i do work in a large building so as someone else said im not likely to get a decent signal anyway?
what if i got a bigger, proper DAB - that i could just keep at work and plug my earphones into. would that work better or willi have the same trouble?0 -
Providing you have reasonable DAB reception where you live/work then a full size radio would pull in the signal better than a personal type. If possible try and borrow one first to try.
I have 2 Pure Evoke 1XT radios which provide good quality sound, particularly when compared to 5 live on AM, and I am in a marginal signal area for some stations.
What HiFi rate the Pure 1500 personal radio however as the aerial is shorter the reception is alway likely to be poorer against the 1XT0 -
If Virgin are still doing reconditioned Lobster phones for £19.99, the DAB sounds fine on these.0

I've had this Grundig one for a while. Works fine at home, but can be a problem if there's too much ironwork in the building. The headset acts as the antennae. Not sure if portable hifi is exempt from their 16 day guarantee, but if they're not why not get one from Argos and see if it works in your office?I really must stop loafing and get back to work...0

Tesco (durham) had SONY portable DAB on offer at £50, or if you can stand FM Currys were doing a SONY 512MB mp3 player with built in FM radio for £30. In my experience (as has already been said) you udo seem to need quite a strong signal for DAB otherwise you get an awful burbling sound.
Hope this helps.0
