Sending parcels, not including return address, Royal Mail are useless

I use Royal Mail PPI and I thought a return address wouldn't be needed because they could identify the sender (me) through the PPI number.

After sending around 10k parcels, didn't have 1 returned (but plenty reported lost). So contacted Royal Mail and they said the returns centre do not use the PPI number to find the return address. Crazy. All they have to do is enter the PPI number into a computer and it will bring up my address.

Do you think I could sue Royal Mail for this. It is pretty shocking they don't have the intelligence to send any undelivered parcels back to me, using the PPI number to identify the sender (my) address.

I am going to start writing the return address on packages but its going to take time as over 200 parcels a day go out.

It would cost pennies to get reels of address labels printed off and nanoseconds to stick them on.

I personally think the responsibility is with you, to ensure your parcel/packet is packed and labelled properly, and to me that is also with senders details..

Every parcel I receive from businesses large or small, all have had a sender's address on them...

If you want to waste your money by trying to take them to court, but they will prob laugh and tell you to read the small print in their terms and conditions

also don't know if you are aware, business accounts can not claim for lost parcel/packets either

Think this should be a lesson learned ...

Yes a pretty shocking lack of intelligence.

because it is not their responsibility...

if is not cost effective for them to have someone in front of their computer going though their software to find your details, put a label on your parcel/packet and send it back to you..

    and to quote you

'Its not Rocket science' to put a return label on your parcel/packet in the first place

Well lets get to the basics.
Who pays for a large unit in Belfast to deal with postal items that have no return address?
If they used your PPI details. THey would have to add an address label,no?

In many instances the registered address for the PPI account has nothing to do whatsoever with the return address for packages, which is especially true for big companies. My returns don't go to my PPI address.

It's perfectly clear when you sign up for PPI, all mail has to have a return address. That more than covers Royal Mail. If it's undeliverable and no return address it goes to Belfast, opened and traced to the sender then returned. If you're a seller who sends a plain packet with no receipts, invoices or anything other than the item then you've nobody to blame but yourself.

Although you seem to think if you had a return address you'd still have most of these 'lost' packets back. Not a hope in hell. Probably 99% of those items were not lost by Royal Mail, they were not stolen by Royal Mail, they were not undeliverable. They were simply stolen by the customer, end off. Return address won't make a blind bit of difference.

Didn't put a return address on a parcel and now wants to sue Royal Mail because they didn't return the parcel.

You just couldn't make this up, could you?

    Sometimes I simply despair.
