How far should I let vet go with drips/tests for my 19 year old cat?

yes Mrs Z - a 'natural' death isn't always a kind option is it? I am sure as humans we all would wish to slip away quietly 'in our sleep'. rather than struggle for hours or days.0

Hello as I started this thread last week I wanted to post an update although a sad one.
The blood tests I had taken for my poor cat showed she had liver disease which was the cause of her not eating and she rapidly deteriorated very quickly overnight last week.
Had to make the heartbreaking decision to let her go the next morning. Was worried I wouldn't know when the time was right but I think you instinctively do as a pet owner. Wanted to say thank you to everyone who posted with thoughts, experiences and support especially farfromhome who had been through a similar experience. Missing her heaps but it's some comfort to know we did as much as we could and the right thing at the end.
Thanks again for support.0 -
Sorry to hear this update bargainhunterkid. You did the right thing for her in the end. Hugs xxx0

Really sorry for your loss. Going through something similar at the moment with my 17 year old tabby. I know how hard it is.0

So sorry to hear about your poor cat OP. We lost a lovely cat aged 5 to liver failure it was awful, there really wasn't any hope.0

I am so sorry OP, but, I have come to believe that if you are 'considering' having your pet PTS, then its come to the right time to do so. You did the 'kind' thing.0

You've definitely done the right thing for your cat, it is the last and kindest gift we can give to prevent suffering. I hope you have many lovely memories of happier times to draw on and hope it helps to ease the loss. A cat that is loved and has a good home is a lucky cat indeed. xxx0

Sorry to read/hear the news but as a caring pet owner you did absolutely the right thing- there's never a right time to make such a decision as you/me/we are in a no win situation with an elderly animal.
All I can say is remember the good times, find some nice photos to display those times and then when you are feeling less emotionally drained perhaps go and get a new cat.
Take careBeing polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

I don't often comment on the pets board, but OP if you get the chance google the poem Rainbow Bridge - have a box of Kleenex at the side of you, it's a very sad poem with a lot of meaning that has certainly helped me when I've had beloved lets pts.
