That will bring the working class vote! Patronise them and they shall come!

    Edit: Grant Shapps' work apparently.

Danny Alexander backed away big style on News night laid the blame squarely on Shappsy.

    Crass own goal.

I like ISAs being more flexible but I still think there should be a much lower tax free allowance say 25k total, available immediately. The extra amount every year available currently means the vast majority of the benefit goes to the richest, highly regressive.

The vast majority of benefits in tax relief always goes to the richest.

ISA contributions are made out of taxed income by and large.

Wotsthat, like many others, shows how pension relief will be used to his maximum benefit.

Not sure why one savings vehicle should get worse treatment than another.

Don't forget to stuff your money into your pension a year in advance as student finance works on the previous tax year.

If the government spent less and reduced the tax burden people would be more productive as they could focus entirely on earning more rather than having to spend increasing amounts of time managing tax affairs.

A stunning budget IMO, didn't think Osborne had it in him.

Equally suprising (& not talked about that much) was Ed Miliband's response, which must surely go down as the weakest Common's response to a budget there has ever been. He literally did not address a single specific measure. Labour may yet win the election but if anyone wanted final proof that they have no clue on the economy this was it. Osborne finally delivers something unexpectedly ground-breaking & Miliband is literally speechless.

Probably because for once it wasn't leaked so his speech writers did not have 24 hours to prepare and all he could do was mumble through his nose about the same old nonsense.

Milliband's reponse was very strange - I listened live and he seemed to ignore the Budget and have nothing to say but a few soundbites. I thought traditionally a copy of the Budget is given to the opposition a while before so they can prepare a response? Did that not happen this time?

Balls was on GMTV this morning (yes, sorry, I should know better).

He said the deficit was supposed to be Nil by 2014 but was still high (presenter said iut had stil lcome down lots) and Balls was all "yes, well, like, but, its not Nil which is what they promised, blah, blah".

Balls said it was a budget for the rich (presenter said what about the pension changes, the ISA changes, the increase in personal allowance) and Balls was all "yes, but its small and old people could take all their pension and blow it all on a holiday, then what?"

Presenter then asked about Labours removal of the 10p rate and Balls said "that was a mistake". So hang on, Osborne gets the deficit prediction wrong and he's a crass fool, buit Balls gets the 10p tax rate wrong and that's okay?

He really is the Tory parties best election weapon and Milliband needs to get rid of him and replace him with anyone else.

I guess Milliband read the preview, realised it all looked good and so just went with blaming bankers, mention the rich elite (of which he is one) and get the popular vote from the hardcore voters.

You must be one of those regressive rich people;)
