Still Self Employed, Aged 65+, now Sick

Hi
My friend is 67, on low retirement pension, so still continuing to work on self-employed basis. Now long-term sick (3 months), hence income dropped substantially.
Any sickness-type benefits he can claim - most seem to have age 65 limit on them?

Your friend needs to apply for Pension credit.

You can google for more information.

At that age the only thing available is Attendance Allowance. It is a rather difficult benefit to be awarded, much the same conditions that made up the middle and higher rates of DLA.
It is for those that have substantial care needs.

Maybe you should be looking at Pension Credit which obviously is a means tested benefit for those of limited means and low capital reserves.

Actually Pension credit does not have any upper savings/capital limit.

Any amount of savings/capital over £10000 is reduced by £1 for every extra £500 (or part there) of from the applicable amount.

As it is means tested any pension(s)/other income is taken into account and reduces the award.

However, even a very small award would mean automatic entitlement to housing benefit and council tax support.
