Dealership wanting cash for purchase.
I agreed a deal on a BMW yesterday at a local dealer at a good price. The guys have a lot of good stock but aren't the most politest.
I had to put 100 deposit down on car to secure as well as them working on the car.
On collection they are asking for cash? I said thats daft as I've just used a card and its less secure for them and a ball ache for me to get it. He said thats how they deal but there are motors in there for 10K plus which I know causes issues.
Is this normal? I'm a bit wary, everything checks out with the car.
Cheers

They may have to pay up to 3% per card transaction. They may not have the facility to process cards, the last two I have bought have been from cash only places. I once paid £9k in cash for an Audi A4.0

I'd run like ****0

Right, before you have even driven off the forecourt you are wary, haven't been dealt with politely, worried about dealing with them in cash and are asking for interwebbery help.
Do you think you should buy the car from them, or just forfeit the deposit and buy somewhere else?0 -
Can't see an issue if they will also take a bank transfer or cleared cheque.0

As said, they may have to pay a charge for credit cards. But a debit card has always been fine in my experience - and much safer than carrying loads of cash around.
But if you're not happy with them now, before they have your money, what sort of after-sales care do you think you're going to get if the car turns out to have a fault?0 -

Yes, a debit card incurs a 35p charge, a credit card, around 3%.0 -

So run because they don't want to pay a 35p charge.
Given the value of the cars, surely it would be easier to accept a debit card than speak to HMRC about fraud cover as these guys will be hitting the limit for that.

Just feels dodgy to me for a dealer of high value cars not to accept cards. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

Assuming it's going through the books. They're probably about to wind up the trading company to avoid some existing action from an unhappy customer, and thought that the 10K would be handy 'walking-around money' until they get the new company up and running
