Peugeot Anti Pollution Fault

I'm after a bit of advice please from anyone familiar with the idiosyncracies of French motors
I've got a Peugeot 307 hdi, 1.6 diesel, 110 bhp version, 56 plate. Last week a message flashed up on the LED display saying "Anti Pollution Fault", and the engine management light on the dash came on. This stayed for 3 days, then magically cured itself. But I'm worried that it's heralding the onset of something expensive.
Driving style - twice a week I do a 170 mile, high-speed ( very ! ) journey, with "pootling" back and forth in between. From what I've managed to gather about DPFs, this surely should be OK ?
Any ideas ? Or is it likely to have been a glitch in the sensors, and nothing to worry about ?

If there was a fault it should be stored in the ECU so maybe get someone with a code reader to check?0

Ah, didn't know the fault would be stored. Thanks, I'll get my local mechanic to see if he can plug in his gadgetry
