How long for home report first draft to be delivered?

Options
Hello All

Does anyone work for a surveyor? i had a home report visit 8 days ago, and i have phoned a couple of times to ask about the progress, to be told various things, the last one being the computer system has been down for a couple of days, i am thinking for a first draft report on a PDF may not even require a system and just a computer that is on.

I am getting a bit impatient as i believe to type up a report can be done in a matter of minutes by a good secretary, i think it is simply copying the information from the report to another format.

Perhaps i am wrong and there is a lot more involved, so thought i would ask you all.

Do you think 8 days for first draft is acceptable?

Thanks

  • Mine took 7 days I think. Survey on a Monday, report through by email on a Monday

Assuming no 'system problems', and a reasonably efficient back office, a day or so should be the target ....

Ours was longer than a week.

If they;'re having computer problems it is no surprise it will take longer. Just keep ringing them to get yours to the top of the pile.

Countrywide did mine last April. My mortgage bod chased them constantly and was told 'it's in the post' 'it's being printed today' 'it's being typed up today' and 'it'll be sent by email today' on various occasions.

Three weeks after it'd been done, she called the surveyor on his mobile who said it hadn't been typed up yet and it'd be with me within a day (it was - by email and post).

As you can imagine, I was going crazy (as was she)!

As with hazyjo, I once waited over 3 weeks for a surveyor's report to come back. The surveyor had obviously taken on more work than could be comfortably handled & my report sat on the bottom of a big pile waiting to be typed up.

I made a strong complaint to my lender and suggested that they should stop giving work to this company if the company couldn't cope with the load & get things done in reasonable time & pick another surveyor/s from their panel.

Other than that, I've found on the whole the report has been typed up within a week. Nowadays of course with the internet, many surveyors will email you a copy of the report once it's done, prior to getting a copy in the post to you.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

just read the thread title properly. I can't imagine a surveyor would ever issue a 'first draft' of such an important document.

Standard practice. The homeowner has to approve it before final publication, and complete the property questionnaire.

We're talking Home Reports in Scotland.

It was quicker for me when mine was done lost year, surveyor came on Monday 29th April and draft report was available (online) on Thursday 2nd May.
  • Still waiting for mine with Countrywide! been a joke start to finish to be honest, there are now 2 letters, and 2 emails they supposedly sent me to sign that I haven't received!
They finally sent me the email for a third time after I rang up and asked them to do it whilst I was on the phone. but apparently they report still isn't ready! They said on Monday it would be tosay, but surprise, surprise still no further.
