Contents Insurance for 2nd floor flat in surface water flood risk area

Options
I am just comparing quotes for contents insurance for the flat I am due to complete on on on Friday. Tesco came out cheapest and when I told them that the flat is in an area at significant risk of surface water flooding (but there are no records of historic flooding in the area) they said they don't cover properties in flood risk areas.

I had done an online quote earlier in the week with dummy personal details and this question wasn't asked so I could have taken out insurance not knowing that they wouldn't actually cover me. I have just done an online quote with Endsleigh and they also didn't ask about flood risk, just had the property ever flooded (answer - no).

So I have a few questions:
- if I am okay to take out insurance online, or might the insurer cancel it if they find out about the flat being in a flood risk area, even though they didn't ask this question?
- I can't see any obvious mention on any site I've looked at so far of not covering flood risk areas, so if buying online is not an option, am I stuck with having to phone round insurers asking them if they would cover my flat?

Thank you in advance

At the start of a Tesco quote it says:-

It's never been flooded, isn't subject to any existing flood warning, and it isn't in an area at risk of flooding

all you need to do is answer the questions asked honestly

Be careful to make sure you read the "general assumptions" and other documentation to make sure there is nothing in that that might affect you

    Thank you, missed that bit.

Thank you, did a dummy quote on the John Lewis website and their assumptions section just says the property mustn't have flooded in the past 5 years, ther policy wordings don't seem to exclude flood risk areas. Think I'll probably phone them and a couple of others for quotes just so I can be sure I have told them everything relevant, but looks like I'll be ok finding an insurer.
