Removal costs

Hi,

I'm getting 3 quotes this week from local companies for our move which will hopefully take place in a months time.

My question is how much can I expect to pay for the move? We are moving 15 miles from a 3 bed semi to a 4 bed detached. Average contents, no usual items etc and both houses have good access.

Thanks in advance

I found quotes very variable, from £500 to £2K. We were doing 3 bed to 4 only about 500 yards away but they all reckoned we had slightly more than teh normal amount of stuff for that size house. Oh they packed as well but that was a fairly small proportion of the cost in each case.

We did the same move as you over a very similar distance and with packing the quotes ranged from 750 to 950.

We also got three quotes and chose the one that we felt most comfortable with, not the cheapest in the end.

Depends on where you're located. Distance doesn't play a big part unless you're moving quite a few miles across country.

I moved 18 months ago from a 3 bed house, no wardrobes as they were all fitted, no appliances as again they were all integrated & no garden stuff as I was moving to a ground floor flat with 2 bedrooms, so downsizing. I was only moving about 2 miles away if that & it cost me in the region of £650 for the move, which was a pretty good price for London suburb.

The company I used don't charge extra time if you are late getting the keys from the ea once solicitor phones to say sale has fully completed, which quite a few companies do do.

Oh & I did my own packing, though company did supply a certain amount of boxes as standard.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
  • We are moving from 3 bed detached to 4 bed detached approx 15 miles away and they will be doing the packing, dismantling and re-building of the furniture. They have quoted 990 pound I got them down to 925 pound, which we are happy with as its going to save us a lot of time and stress...

I moved flat (just me, but I had a ton of stuff) and moving from one part of the city to the other I was quoted 400-700 quid.

In the end I hired man-with-a-van and it cost me something like 3 hours at 25/hr with both of us shifting stuff into the van. I lived on a top floor flat which meant it was a huge pain to move everything down otherwise it'd have been faster.

Saved a fortune. He was insured against damage. Worth it despite it being a bit of a back breaking morning!

If I was feeling lazier it's 45/hr for 2 men with a van so I could just sip a drink and watch them do it. Removal companies just wanted such a stupid amount more. I'll pay maybe £200 vs the £100 it cost but not £500 or £600 you have to be joking, I could hire 5 people and 2 vans and still have change!
