I have been over a few times in the last couple of months for work
had a lovely meal here one night http://www.brasseriesixty6.com/ (I had the sausage and mash €15.50 - I normally work in London so prices not that much different) Am not a drinker really but for the ones that are they found the drink expensive

The Celt bar on talbot st is a nice pub away from temple bar, has live music every night and the Guinness was under 5 Euro here.

The Guinness brewery has a couple of places to eat and the bar at the top does have the best Guinness we tasted whilst there.

The tram is very easy to use - buy you tkt before boarding.

We went to a very nice Italian that was very reasonable- Toscana City Centre
  • I've just finished booking the hotels for our Grand Tour of Ireland - for 2 of us, 7 nights in a variety of hotels (2 nights in Dublin, 2 in Cork, 2 in Bunratty near Shannon, and then 1 in Dublin on the way home), I've averaged £46 per person per night.

So it's not the hotels that are expensive (I used booking.com and lastminute.com) - and to be honest, you can control how much you eat and drink if you're wanting to keep the costs down.

    Have a great time.

Thanks everyone for your advice on Dublin.

Just back from my short break and took up many of the suggestions.

We ate at Toscana and also M&S restaurant (ideal for an early supper before heading for evening flight). Other evenings we were in pubs with music so had bar menu. Lunchtimes (not very hungry after full Irish) so had cakes and/or paninis in various cafes (can recommend the one at Collins Barracks).

We had a 3 day pass for Dublin bus which was good value.

Overall I didn't find food and drink prices too expensive compared with south of England which isn't cheap but it's what we're used to.

    Would certainly recommend!

Now I've decided I need some new luggage, so perhaps see you on another thread.

Glad you had a good time. We're still in Ireland - half way through a one-week trip. We're here on business, so no sightseeing sadly, but I totally agree about prices.

For example - meal for 4 at Milano's in Dublin south (nice mid-range Italian restaurant chain) including wine = €101, or appx £83.00.
