No idea where to start with Tax Credits?

Hi, new to the board.

I was hoping someone could give me some advice on what if anything I can receive tax credit wise? I haven't claimed before as our joint income was too high but my husband and I separated last summer so I have been living alone since August, we have the 2 children alternate weeks.
I became redundant at Christmas so my annual income for 2013/2014 will dropped drastically and probably be about £15,000 gross when I hopefully start work again which would be for between 18hrs - 24hrs a week.
Do i qualify for both child and work elements? When could I claim them and when would I receive them if I am?
Sorry for all the questions but I don't want to make any false claims and end up having to pay back any overpayments made
Thank you
