Any Other Options?

I recently inherited a vehicle and obtained an insurance quote.
The amount was £260.
I had not been driving for a couple of years so had not had a vehicle to insure.
Previously I had driven a company vehicle for nine years and had a clean bill of health except for an SP30 in 2011.
I forwarded some documentary evidence of this to the insurance company but they came back to me requiring more evidence.
The main gist of this is they state that they cannot except previous
insurance I had on a commercial vehicle at the company and my
full no-claims bonus could not be applied and consequently my annual
premium would now be £550.
The £260 would have been fine but the increased premium is obviously not good news,although I thought things were too good to be true.
Assuming I retain the vehicle, has anyone got any views on a course of action so I could back to a more realistic premium with this insurance company or a different one?

Shop around but with zero no claims it wont be that cheap.

Did you have no any no claims bonus previously? Most wont accept it if over 2 years. CO-OP may accept upto 3?

Over that then you will be starting with none.

Dont forget if its not taxed and insured you need to SORN it and keep it off the road.
