Help with damp in kitchen and dining room

I completed on a property on the Friday past :j, but now the seller has removed the washing machine and dryer from their location I can see some quite bad damp problem.

The property had a DPC in 83 and again in 92. The damp is on the external kitchen wall and part of the dining room wall. The kitchen is an extension to the property which has been in place since before the seller.

I've ripped away one of the backing from the kitchen unit and the problem appears to be across the entire length. I had a look at the outside and although the render looks a little dated, there isn't any significant damage to it. However the string of render where the DPC holes were was very loose to the point of falling off with very little force! The same render as used on the but which has fallen off is used across a fair chunk of the exterior. The loose bit looks like the obvious issue, but could there be anything else? Also what to do to get it fixed? Should the builder/bricky use a certain type of render - so I can make sure he does.
