If you pay £50 a month it will only balance out if you just use £50 worth of energy (including the standing charge). If you use more then it will cost more and if you use less then it will cost less..
The energy company can only estimate what they think you'll use, it's up to you to check your bills & meters to see if your bills are correct and that they reflect your consumption by making sure the readings match.
If they don't match then you should inform the supplier and get the bill corrected. Ideally you should give them a reading every month. If you don't check & correct your bills or monitor your consumption then you've only got yourself to blame if you get a ginormous bill - it's up to you to take charge of your billsNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
OP I had something happen slightly similar and I nearly hit the roof when they requested nearly £60 exta month to cover debt plus normal consumption. I requested they check their records and give me a full breakdown of my payments so I can match it to mine.
It was at that point they discovered the error at their end. They hadn't transfered all my payments from the old system to the new system when they combined both my fuels to a single bill. Once they sorted this out and transfer all my payments correctly I was back in credit again.
Try giving them a call and double checking your payments ect this may help. By the way even if you wanted to leave and say for example had less than £150 debt they will object and you can't leave until you clear the debt in full as you are classed as being on a payment plan. If you're not on a payment plan and have a debt of £150 they will let you change suppliers. It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0
