Free alternative to windows live mail client.

Hi folks,

I'm thinking of creating a new email address with Hotmail, but don't want to add it to my present windows live program as it would take too long for it to sync when opening as I have already two on there.

Is there another free alternative to windows live mail client that would suit my purpose, I would just add new email addy to it, rather than read through browser?

Many thanks
Martin57

I'll second Thunderbird. IMO it can't be beat.

Is a couple of seconds too long? New Hotmail address? Are you expecting tons of mail or something?

    Another vote for Thunderbird.

However, bit of a pain to transfer your emails and particularly your contacts from Windows Live Mail to Thunderbird because of the way Live Mail stores this information, but there is a good guide here.

Having put TB into the ring, I'm not sure you will notice much difference with another email address in Live mail. You will have to open up TB or anything else separately, before you've done that Live will have downloaded all your new mail.
To be honest, only picking up three email addresses is a very small task.
I have TB picking up 9 and one of those picks up from a further 4. It takes seconds for them all to be loaded.
Perhaps it's your BB connection that is slow?

Or maybe there are a lot of emails in your Inbox folder?

Thanks for replies. will try thunderbird. I do have fibre broadband but do get a lot of useless emails, and don't check email every day which then takes a while to download.

You might find it helps to go into your email provider's Webmail every now and again, and delete the useless ones (or move them from your Inbox into another folder).
