Name change on marriage- middle names

Has anyone on changing their name on marriage done anything other than adopt their husband's surname? Basically I want to add my mum's name as a middle name when I get married and wondered if I'll be able to do this through the wedding certificate or if I'll have to do it by deed poll

  • The name on your marriage certificate will be the name you are known by at the time of your marriage.

I think you will find if you want to include your Mum's name you will need to officially add it before your marriage i.e. by Change of Name Deed.

You wedding certificate doesnt show your married name, only your maiden name.

Your name is arbitrary, you can call yourself whatever you want as long as you dont do so for fraudulent reasons. The problem is getting "officials" to recognise your new name wjocj os wjere deed pole etc can come into.

In reality some official documents like Passports are actually surprisingly easy to get changed into another name. https://www.gov.uk/changing-passport-information/name-changes-that-dont-match-official-documents You can simply do an affidavit or statutory declaration that this is the name you will be known by, pay your fees and get your new passport.

Once you have that then others will be simplier.

Obv given fees involved changing passports its only worth doing once your already married rather than having to add your new middle name and then do it again to change the surname

I think, it is not better to change your name for marriage because it could be problem for you in future during making some important documents.
