Looking for a Motion Sensor Spy Camera

Options
Hi Guys

I live in rented accommodation and at times I feel as though someone is going into my room when I'm out. If you've used one that you highly recommend then please let me know and why you like it. Sometimes I'm away for several days or 2-3 weeks so I need a device that I can plug in but I don't know if a battery operated device will last several weeks. Preferably not too complex and reasonably priced but very good quality recording and audio.

I also want to get a good dash cam for my car.

I look forward to hearing what you guys are using.

Motion sensor spy camera and good quality don't always go togther, due to there size and record mainly to micro or sd card. But plenty out there, disguised as clocks, books and many other items.

Could just change the locks and make the accommodation more secure.

Plus what do you call reasonably priced
Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j

Many cameras do not have built in movement detection, but rely on external software on a pc or separate box which does the detection and stores the images. I have used a propper camera that goes to a web cam card, and an fairly decent web cam that goes to usb. Both work well.

Also used the edimax3030 which is a standalone movement detection camera

In ebay you can get more 'spy camera' types. The problem is limited battery life, and some only last an hour. My friend uses the bedside clock/camera one as a nanny cam but has to charge it all the time. There is also the issue where older videos do not get delete automatically, preventing newer pictures from being saved.

For a car cam. look on youtube for 'technomoan'

trap a matchstick in the door hinge, and close the door, if it's moved when you come back, buy the spycam

  • Both Vivotek and Trendnet make a good line of IP cameras that are cost effective and perform well. You can use Security Monitor Pro camera surveillance software with just about any model of camera - IP or USB. The software has monitoring/recording and sends email/sms alerts, and broadcasts video so you can watch it on another PC or a mobile device.

Buy the Mobius camera as your in Car DVR, and test it for suitability for your other requirement
Certainly with the latest firmwares it offers motion capture
Whilst it is battery operated and so unlikely to run for 2 weeks, could be simply powered of a usb charger

    about £45

I use one with RC models, its a well known and widely used camera

If you have broadband in the place you could buy an IP camera. You could set it up and it will email you pictures if the motion sensor is triggered. some also can be controlled with an IPhone app so you can watch from any location and even move the camera view.

Here is an example of one off Ebay, although Amazon sell them

    Cheers

  • Thank you guys for all your replies. You've provided some really useful information. I will do some homework but in the meantime have started using the matchstick idea. It's a horrible feeling having your privacy invaded!
