Car Insurance

A friend of mine was changing her address for her car insurance (Co-op) only to find out by her insurance company that she has been driving her car without any insurance for 3 months. She then asked why she wasn't notified and she got the reply that it is not in their policy to notify people about cancelling their insurance and it was up to the customer to notify co-op about their insurance.
She has changed her car insurance to esure but what co-op had done, was it illegal in anyway and has anyone had any other problems with them.

Sounds like your friends policy 'lapsed' i.e. came up for renewal and expired rather than cancelled. In those circumstances the Co-op are correct they do not need to confirm that it has lapsed.
If the policy was actually cancelled mid-term then that is different and they have to give notice of cancellation.
Worth checking which it actually is...All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0 -
As above, need to find out if the policy cancelled or lapsed.
If it was cancelled then why was it cancelled and has she declared this to Esure as they require you to NEVER had insurance cancelled.
Assuming it lapsed then Coop have to only send you one letter at a "reasonable time" before the renewal date to advise you of the fact the policy will be lapsing and what, if any, renewal terms are being offered.
Now most insurers who have customers not on autorenewal will hound you after that to get you to renew but they arent required to do so.0 -
Ok thank you, I will ask her if it was coming up for a renewal or if co-op did cancel it and I will get back to you0
