I would not be surprised if Extra Energy are next to go bust

I agree they might be next. Martin had his big energy show on ITV last Monday but I say beware of switching to some of the start up companies. Research reviews first.

I was with Extra Energy for 6 months but jumped ship after experiencing poor customer service. Went back to EDF for 2 years, no problems at all with them. Then I was persuaded by Martin's Big switch collective to move to British Gas. They have succeeded in taking 2 months to sort out my gas meter reading, which was disputed. Even EDF told them they had it wrong. Then on Friday they took my D.D twice, this has also affected thousands of their customers and its not the first time.

Sometimes its just not worth the hassle. Small companies can't cope when thousands of people switch and neither can larger ones it seems. :(
    Holding back the years...
  • They don't appear to comply with the decisions of the ombudsman either. They ignore anything that doesn't suit them.
  • I moved back to Scottish Power and with the exception of taking a while to set up the DD have been no problem at all. They have had problems and no doubt they will continue to have them but at least they answer the phone and accept meter readings etc.
  • I moved into a new house 6 months ago and the electricity supplier was Extra Energy. I quickly switched to another supplier and paid my final bill with Extra Energy and thought that was the end of it.

Low and behold 6m later I had some strange random "thank you for choosing to stay with us" letters and a week later noticed they had taken £50 DD from my account - I should have cancelled the DD but didn't.

Having complained to them, they are now ignoring me so i'm at a bit of a loss of what to do to get my money back. Is the ombudsman the way to go? Could I use the DD guarantee scheme?
A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A

Firstly you have to make a complaint to EE, if they do not respond within eight weeks you can the refer it to the ombudsman.

A couple of points are that it can take months for the ombudsman to take up the case and there is the possibility that EE will ignore them if the case goes against them so good luck.

It is 543 days since I lodged my complaint with EE and it is still not resolved.
  • Looks like they may have got their act together.

I have been fighting with EE for an up to date bill after a meter change and despite me giving them regular readings, I was still got an estimated bill.

Contacted Customer services and finally managed to get a correct bill.

I was £475 in credit so I asked for a refund. Arrived in my account in 5 days... Success.

May be a one off, but we'll see.
  • Still trying to get a final bill out of these idiots. I phoned them up and was promised an email with what I owe them which of course never happened. Phoned today again and still they cant produce a blooming bill as there system wont let them.

They should go out of business soon hopefully.:T
  • I posted in this thread a little while ago saying they had finally given me a correct final bill - but even more surprisingly - they refunded me the correct amount on the day they stated they would! Amazeballs!
