Can I really have spent only £3.39 on Gas since 19/12/13?
Options
I have finally submitted meter readings today to E'ON and I am confused/worried at the results.
Electricity: Day Rate 16.422p Unit Rate 13.871p
19/12/13 Estimated Meter Reading 63910
18/03/14 Actual Meter Reading 64046
My Calculations:
89 days x 0.16422 = £14.61
136 units x 0.13871 = £18.86
Gas: Day Rate 21.903p Unit Rate 4.358p
19/12/13 Estimated Reading 3877
18/03/14 Actual Reaing 3955
My Calculations:
89 days x 0.21903 = £19.49
78 untis x 0.04358 = £3.39 surely this cannot be right?
Total £56.35 can this be right? 3 winter months?
Acording to my account I was £101 in credit on 19/12/13
I have since paid 3 x £114 = £342
My account is now showing £443.53 in credit, last dd payment was yesterday.
I have emailed them requesting a £400 rebate.
BTW we live in a 4 bed detached house, big rooms and Mr 4Chickens was born in a barn and is clearly afraid of the dark given how many lights he leaves on. We have gas radiator central heating, gas fire and dual fuel cooker.

Your gas calculation is wrong, a meter unit is not the same as a KWh, the calculation depends on your meter type. Electricity is fine.
However, it's all immaterial; the main point to notice is your previous reading was estimated. How can you say you've only used 136 units of electricity when the first reading is a guess?
I would imagine edf are correct to say you're £400 in credit, they've certainly been competent with my account. This winter has also been exceptionally mild.0 -
Your 78 gas units will be approx. 870kWh with a metric gas meter(m3) or approx. 2,500kWh with an Imperial meter(cu ft)
However as said above, starting with an estimated meter reading you have no idea of your actual consumption.0 -
Thanks for the reply.
I suspected the key part is that the last meter reading is estimated.
What are my chances of getting some money back?0 -
Hi 4chickens
Already some excellent advice on here from Bluebirdman and Cardew. Thanks both.
Provided the account's billed up to date to actual meter readings, any credit balance at that point is yours. If requested, we'll send this back to your bank.
Thought it might help if I gave you a bit of info on how we look after Monthly Direct Debits.
We work them out based on current prices and usage over the previous 12 months. The more readings we have, the more accurate they'll be.
Payments are spread evenly over a year. At certain points, there'll be a credit balance on the account. The aim is to achieve as near as possible to a zero balance by the time of the annual review.
At the annual review, all credit over a fiver is automatically refunded. Again, as long as the account has been billed accurately.
If the credit is refunded, our advisors will let you know how much we anticipate the account will be in credit/debit by the time of the annual review.
To achieve a zero balance, they may also recommend an increase/decrease in the monthly payments. This will depend on how accurate past estimates have been.
Ask Mr 4chickens, to take a look at the 'energy vampires' on our website. It's on the Saving Energy Toolkit page. Might help him drive a stake through the heart of that extra usage.
Hope this is of interest 4chickens. Give me a shout if you need any more details as happy to help.
