Ok, which is cheaper to run energy wise. Gas hob and oven or electric hob and oven?

Gas is cheaper per kwh, so for the same output in kw then gas must be cheaper although it's not quite as efficient as electricity as some heat escapes around the sides of the pan.
Generally cooking by gas or electricity is a personal preference, gas is a lot more controllable than electricity but isn't quite so clean as you do get condensation from burning gas and they are harder to clean.
We used to have a gas hob with an electric fan oven which worked well for us, but now we are all electric (no gas).
We have got ourselves an induction hob. Apart from the fact that we had to get new pots & pans (our aluminium ones wouldn't work with it) It's brilliant. No wasted heat as only the pan gets hot. It's as controllable as gas and significantly faster than any hob we've ever had - it boils water in a saucepan nearly as fast as our electric kettle. Even after nearly four years it still looks brand new as food doesn't burn onto it like it does with gas, electric or even halogen hobs.
My wife is totally sold on it as well - we were going to get a halogen as we'd had one before and it was pretty good, but induction is significantly better.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Totally agree with the comments about an induction hob - they are simply fantastic.
When we had the kitchen refurbished my wife - a keen cook - wanted a gas hob. As it would have been a problem to get gas to that area of the kitchen, she reluctantly agreed to an induction hob and now is the biggest enthusiast.
Indeed I would say it is far more controllable than gas - instant heat on/off, up/down as required. With the boost button boiling water is quicker than a kettle.
However, as said above, they are still very expensive to buy and you need a new set of saucepans/frying pans - so money-saving they ain't!!0
