Which deposit protection scheme

I am about to go it alone and take over the management of my rental property after having issues with my agents lack of full management service which they were supposed to be providing.
I've got everything else in place now accept for which deposit protection scheme to register with. I need to do this and pass it onto the onld agent to conclude all business.
My question is, is there any real difference between the schemes or advantages/disadvantage?
I've had a read of the gov.uk page but I would like the opinion of anyone who uses them already.
Any advice greaty appreciated.

I prefer the idea of holding the money myself and earning some interest on it but there's 6months left on the lease and this may be wiped out by the fee. Do the fees vary between companies?
