I am looking to get some help with certain specific areas of a new startup that I have in mind - and looked at couple of places, only to be disappointed with them 'selling' stuff rather than trying to even look at what I am after.

I understand there are lot of organizations out there (and can be googled), would would like to hear from someone from their experience. Ideally free but won't mind paying/donating if it is worth it. Thanks.

Depends on which areas. If you could tell us which "specific areas" you are wanting help with, then maybe we can point you in the right direction. There are so many different areas of business, and no single person/group can possibly help you in all of them.

I approached my local Chamber of Commerce - they offer free advice to start ups. I found my local Chamber to be very helpful and they taught me how to write a business plan, to market my business etc. etc.
