I can't comment on the rightness (or not) of your decision to go with II; but I can say that I've recently opened accounts with both II and Charles Stanley Direct and am very impressed with II's customer service. They have responded to every query I've had very quickly, both by 'phone and using their web chat facility.
And, after opening the account, I received a "welcome" 'phone call from one of their team. This was followed up with a second call (me having agreed to this) in which I was guided through every aspect of the website to help familiarise me with how it all works.
So far, I am delighted with their service.
