Santander bank current account

Santander Bank might still claim to have a 3% instant access current account as advertised on Money Saving Expert, but in reality I think they have enough customer's already and are now refusing new customer's for this account. I was recently (March 2014) refused this Santander account which is the first time EVER I've been refused anything by any bank after 35 years of banking. They say I have a poor credit rating which is a bit like telling the Pope he is not really Catholic.

I think the more likely explanation is that your credit rating is not as good as you supposed

Actually it's more like telling the Pope he is really Catholic - it's something you'd expect him to know but if he doesn't then it's easy enough for him to find out....

Well I must have a good credit rating as they invited me to open two more 123 accounts yesterday (for me and the wife) in addition to our joint 123.

Mind you I got refused a Halifax Clarity card a couple of years ago although my credit rating was first class. Annoyingly, they never tell you why.

I've never bothered checking my credit rating, as I can't see the point.
Apart from a mortgage paid of some years ago, I/we've never borrowed money/taken out credit.

The pope's not catholic? I didn't expect that.

Actually some people in here think Santander is the devil's spawn so perhaps they are working in mysterious ways.
