EDF Energy wants my meter reading, but they're not my provider!
Having recently moved, EDF Energy wrote to me asking for my meter reading, but they're not my energy provider!
From bills, I can see previous occupants didn't pay their bills, so I'm guessing that's why. Should I answer them? Is it in my interest to do so?
The only other reason I can think of that would have triggered this is that they provided me with gas and electricity at my previous address (but I suspect it's actually to do with previous occupants of my current address).

How do you know who your current electricity supplier is?
If EDF supplied the previous residents at your address, then you automatically inherit them as supplier, until you switch to someone else (which takes about 2 months).0 -

The company that reads your meter is not necessarily the same company that supplies you or owns the meter. Many suppliers and meter asset providers use 3rd party reads. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Your meters are read by your local meter operator not by your supplier.
You will be receiving a meter reader from EDF Energy Network branch not its residential supply branch. They won't try to sign you up or conduct any sort of marketing activities.
This is completely normal behaviour, assuming you live in London/South East/South West.0 -
They are my provider and I'd really love to change. I've been charged twice the same bill and it's SO HARD to get in touch with them to ask for explanation. So I'm not surprised they're now coming to you without any title that justifies this requestHaving recently moved, EDF Energy wrote to me asking for my meter reading, but they're not my energy provider!

Why so hard to contact them? It's a free-phone number, did have to wait about 10 minutes once, but usually no prblem.0 -
Seriously? the one that I read behind the bill is not free (if you call from mobile as I only can do).
So I emailed them and they came back after 2/3 weeks. Then they could not identify where I was - and that was SURREAL as they can send me bills!!
After a month (THAT long) they finally identified me and they're now trying to sort stuff out.
If you know a better way to contact them and find solutions it's really appreciated if you can let me know!societys_child wrote: »Why so hard to contact them? It's a free-phone number, did have to wait about 10 minutes once, but usually no prblem.0 -

All 0800 plus a geographic number for mobiles and from abroad.
I have been with them for 18 months now with no real problems, had to contact them a couple of times and answered quickly and issues answered. If they were competitive on price I would have no hesitation in staying.0 -
I'm going to try
