Need larger radiator

Our hallway is always cold - it has a small (600 ml) single panel radiator. It is fed by very small pipework that comes out of the wall.
We would like to go for a larger double radiator but are not keen to have the wall chopped about if it can be avoided.


Would a plumber be able to add a length of pipe to the existing pipework which would run behind and then into the longer radiator.

The "small pipework" you mention is probably microbore - which is relatively easy to work with.

But would you need a bigger radiator ? If you've currently got a single panel radiator, you may be able to get away with replacing it with a double panel of the same width. Have a look here to give you a rough idea :

But yes, if needs be a decent plumber should be able to fit a wider radiator without causing too much mess.

As always, ask around friends and neighbours for a recommended plumber, then ask him ( or her ! ) to come and have a look and give you some advice and a quote.

I would add to this , check your set up in the hall way , draughty door ? , wooden flooring ? , any draughty windows nearby ? , would be a shame to invest in a large radiator and not feel any benefit

I'm just guessing here. But isn't one of the skills of a plumber, the ability to join lengths of pipe.
So the answer is yes, a plumber can do exactly what you require. That's why he/she is a plumber.
