SMP and work query

Hoping someone can answer a query. I currentlly have two jobs one is a permanent job work same hours every week etc and the other is a casual job, work on a as and when basis. I am currently expecting and will be taking maternity leave from my permanent job and will receive SMP, but as the other job is casual I would like to continue doing some work after I have settled into life as a mum, but this would be whilst on maternity leave and in receipt of SMP. How would my ad hoc earnings affect my SMP - would it not affect my SMP or would SMP be stopped / reduced by earnings - and if it is how will they know what I earn each week as this could differ each week i.e some weeks may be nothing other weeks could be £35 - £100.

Any advice greatly apprecaited, thanx

Simple answer is that you cannot work and also be in reciept of SMP.

Best case scenario is that it would be reduced £ for £ but I think that is in the case of maternity allowence.

You can't do any paid work at all while claiming maternity pay.

I wondered if I could do any bits of ad-hoc work but was told any earnings would reduce my maternity pay £ for £, so it's not worth it.
Here I go again on my own....
