yes jennga...
The trains are every 45 mins from three bridges to London and to Gatwick all night.. thats why I was considering it.. and yeh you are right it is very randomly placed...
regarding the commuting cost - I dont mind as much as my company in London reimburses 70% of my rail annual season ticket cost

I live near Horley and commute to London every day but not in the middle of the night. I think the trains around here are few and far between after about 11pm or midnight and then start up again about rush hour time the following morning - I've been stranded a few times in London trying to get back to Horley in the middle of the night.
For train purposes you will probably be better looking at Three Bridges.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

You'll get a lot more for your money if you look at areas around Three Bridges in Crawley (since you mention Crawley). I can't particularly recommend Crawley (town centre) but Three Bridges/Pound Hill/Maidenbower are safe areas. Depends where in London you need to get to though as well.
Good grief, you make Crawley sound like disaster waiting to happen. Ok, it's not leafy Home Counties but I wouldn't call it unsafe! Have lived in the Gossops Green area of Crawley for 40yrs and found it very convenient for all forms of transport, road, (access to all motorways) air, rail and buses. Google the Metrobus fastway bus routes. There are certainly areas of Pound Hill I would not live in though.
OP look up Crawley in t'inernet, there is plenty to do including the new sports centre and the Leisure park with dining, cinemas, bowling and a gym.0 -
I can confirm that there's an hourly service between GTW and VIC that runs all night and stops as advised. Every time I've ever taken it, it's also stopped at Redhill but clearly no one wants to make housing choices based on unadvertised stops.
Crawley may not be pretty but it's a family-friendly, useful place; well-connected, facilities/amenities/shops and good value housing.
You should be able to get a decent 1 bed in Three Bridges for that budget and (just) in Horley too. I doubt you'd have much choice in Purley.
I wasn't suggesting Earlswood because of lack of trains at night and now on a budgetary basis, merely giving you some context for my knowledge of Horley.
Let me know if you have any specific queries.0 -
I've just bought a house in Three Bridges and it's a fab place to live. Neighbours are very friendly and it's very easy to train or bus to Gatwick. I can also walk to Crawley Town Centre in about 15 minutes.0

I suggest you re-read my post. I said I can't particularly recommend Crawley (town centre). Gossops Green is not the town centre. I mentioned Maidenbower/Pound Hill/Three bridges as those are the areas closest to 3B station for commuting, so relevant to the OP. If the OP chose Gossops Green then they would need to take the bus to 3B or LGW to commute during the night, which is not ideal.

thanks everyone...
I am gonna choose Horley as my first preference as the housing there is affordable and its just a 43 minutes commute into london...
it will cost me a bit more for an annual season ticket but my company will re-imburse me 75% of the ticket cost..
and whatever happens with national rail services... worse come worse they will do their best to run a service to gatwick as its a big airport... so I wont be stranded living in horley
super excited now
thanks again everyone..
just one question... does anyone live in Horley?0
